The challenges that await you

You will perform various technical and analytical tasks necessary to support the municipality's environmental guidelines regarding the management of natural environments, including conducting biological characterization studies, ecological value analyses, and writing reports.

You will participate in drafting requests for certificates of authorization under applicable legislation for the City’s future development projects and will issue environmental recommendations to citizens, developers, and their consultants.

More specifically, you will:

  • You will issue recommendations and request modifications to plans, specifications, studies, and other submitted documents.
  • You will collect data and conduct sampling necessary for biological characterization studies, analyze the ecological value of inventoried natural environments, and write biological characterization study reports.
  • You will conduct field inspections and ensure that work is carried out in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • You will write technical documents such as inspection reports detailing the site, issue recommendations, and follow up on the compliance of work, structures, or constructions located in or near natural environments, as part of corporate or private projects that will be transferred to the City, such as compensation arrangements, restoration work, or planting. You will gather and compile data, produce analyses and statistics of various types.
  • You will inform citizens and ICI of non-compliant aspects, observed violations, and required corrections, and then carry out the necessary follow-ups.
  • You will conduct research, compile statistical data, and produce various documents (reports, tables, etc.).
  • You will monitor and update dashboards, performance indicators, and geomatics databases related to natural environments and interpretation panels.
  • If necessary, you will seek the intervention of representatives from other municipal departments involved (urban planning, public works, engineering, etc.).
  • You will raise awareness and inform citizens and various stakeholders (citizens, consultants, other municipal departments, developers, etc.) about natural environments, policies, plans, regulations, and applicable laws to promote compliance.
  • You will communicate and collaborate with employees from other departments, external organizations, or the ministry. You will provide the requested information, compile the received data, and ensure quality control.
  • You will prepare the necessary documentation for evidence, inform the lawyers from the Legal Affairs Department, and may act as a witness in court in your area of expertise.
The ideal profile for us
  • Hold a DEC in the field of environment;
  • Have twenty-four (24) months of relevant experience, particularly in watercourse inspection;
  • Knowledge in environment, particularly in watercourse management (environmental standards);
  • Knowledge of the legislative framework in natural environments, mainly in watercourse management (water environment);
  • Comfortable with fieldwork in varied conditions (natural environments, weather, etc.);
  • Monitoring of work in natural environments, particularly in watercourses (an asset);
  • Understanding of hydraulic and hydrology concepts;
  • Possess a valid driver's license and a vehicle;
  • Possess an ASP construction card.
